Emergency Pizza Party won the 2008 Song Fight! Live competition with Calico Alley!

It's August 16, 2008. The Song Fight! song title of the week is Calico Alley. In the span of a few hours the backing track is created and verses written. The group heads out to Song Fight! Live in Tampa, Florida and performs a set and afterwards performed Calico Alley LIVE with incredibly little rehersing! After the show, food was had at Mema's Alaskan Tacos and the vocals recorded at funky49's.

The verses are (in order) by mc wreckshin, Sir-Up, Jaylyn, Benjamin Bear and funky49. funky49 is the beatmaker (with some great feedback from bbear!). Samples were pulled from The Aristocats, Lady & the Tramp, Checker's/Rally "Rap Cat" commercial, Sublime and random cat sounds.

    Download Calico Alley | 4.7meg | 3:40min

note: The Song Fight peeps were all cool, but the prize for awesome goes out to Hoblit. I'm not sure if he had more fun hanging out and being silly or running around being the sound engineer to make sure the show went on!

and it rocked! what a great show and some of the Milk & Doo Doo dancers came out too! PLUS, two people blogged about coming out to see me! They said i was "pretty good". YES!!!

http://tampastica.wordpress.com said "Funky 49 is a Tampa-based performer who might appeal to people who enjoy MC Chris. He’s got a pretty good flow and clever rhymes. His songs touch on really badass street-tough topics, such as the role-playing game World of Warcraft and broadband vs. dial-up."

and http://hystericalblindnessebysassypants.blogspot.com had more to say like"He took the stage with another rapper (who looked older and either Mexican or Hawaiian and burst into a wild performance. I must say they were pretty good. Their beats were a little generic, but they flowed really well and had a rock star energy about them. Funky 49 hopped around the stage while his partner in crime looked tough and stuck his tongue out (Gene Simmons style) for almost every single picture. I didn’t get the whole “nerd” part at first, it wasn't until I realized what they were singing about that it clicked into place. Even though they performed like your average rap group , it was their lyrics which made them "nerdy". One song which was about role playing games was actually pretty good I liked the descriptive lyrics. And the next song went something like this (you’ve got dial up, I’ve got broadband).

The diversified crowd of nerds and preppy Forever 21 girls went pretty wild over the act. The energy was slightly contagious as Funky jumped into the audience and high fived his loyal patrons. I thought they sounded somewhat like Cypress Hill minus the psychedelic flavor, while Neil heard a definite Beastie Boys influence. Half way through their set, my friend and music critic Julie G, showed up. I wasn’t sure how she was going to react to them, but she smiled a lot and shook her ass a little, so I think she enjoyed them. Their act ended abruptly after they ran out of music."

Are you interested in what gear I use to make sweet jams? Here's the short list: PC, ProTools LE, Reason, Mackie mixer, EV Sentry 100EL monitors, Korg MS2000, Shure & Audio Technica microphones. Some of my fav pieces of gear in the past have been Roland SP-202 sampler (dirty filters, fun buttons to hit to trigger samples) and Glen's Roland JX-3P (analog synth under digital control I think).

I built a new pc to make music with! Wolfdale CPU, ASUS mobo, 2GB Corsair Dominator memory, Antec Sonata III case, 1TB of Seagate Barracuda hard drives, Sythe 120mm fan, MSI/ATI video card. All for $710 before rebates. It replaces a P4 2.9ghz, Gigabyte mobo, 1GB generic memory, blah blah pc of oldness.
