So Wal-Mart would like a piece of land rezoned so they can drop one of their SuperCenters a minute away from the funky49 music productions studio. Funk that! Wally-Mart is going to be pulling a bunch of people from the surrounding area into my quiet part of a quiet town on the border of Tampa. I’m here because I want to drive into the crazy, not have the crazy just down the street from me.
The roads are not set up for this influx of people. If this new Wal-Mart needs cops, they’re not going to be Hillsborough County Sheriffs, they are going to be Temple Terrace po-po. When it rained a lot last year, the street kinda in front of where the store would be flooded. Is some mega pond in the back of the store going to mitigate that plus compensate for the concrete replacing the dirt? Riiight.
Sure Wal-Mart tried to be as good a potential neighbor as (legally) possible and slightly more. Unfortunately, hiding a store with the Spanish-tiled roof behind some non-indigenous trees isn’t good enough. Try dropping your store in a more appropriate location.
Honestly, I would be less concerned if this were a SuperTarget. Studies have proven that 5 of 4 shoppers at Wal-Mart are less clean than shoppers of Target stores. It’s true. Statistics don’t lie, statisticians do. Even if it was Target, a better location would be near actual roads that could support the influx of shoppers. How about on Fowler next to I75 or trying to be an exceptional neighbor by helping redevelop the shopping center on 56th street south of Bullard Parkway? This isn’t the nicest part of Temple Terrace and Wal-Mart wouldn’t make it nicer.
