In 1997 I penned the following poem

Hearts and roses and kisses galore
What the hell is all that shit for?
People get mushy and start acting queer
It is definitely the most annoying day of the year
This day needs to get the hell over with and pass
Before I shove a dozen roses up Cupid’s ass
I’ll spend the day so drunk I can’t speak
And wear all black for the rest of the week
Guys act all sweet, but it soon will fade
For all they are doing is trying to get laid
The arrow Cupid shot at me must not have hit
Because I think love is a crock of shit
So here’s my story… what else can I say?

and this is my yearly retraction of that poem. It’s great for my ego to have those words come up year after year after I sent them to only ONE person (Steve Sock) but I also feel bad for the negativity of it to keep on propagating. I meant the words when I wrote them but I certainly don’t mean them now. Even if you don’t have romantic love, there are other kinds of love you can share with your friends and family today.

Is it good practice to make a blog post when I’m pimped on the web? Let’s say yes!

RFH: First, my mashup of mc chris & David Hasselhoff (which Z named “mc christmas with the hoff”) was included in a Radio Free Hipster podcast, #79! This is a message from my friend, Dan Lameroux…

Believe it or don’t, but Nerdcore For Life is really, finally, for real coming to DVD. The unofficial target release date is November 30th. Some weeks after sales start, the movie will be available to rent via netflix. Our distributor told us that Netflix decides how many copies of a film to buy and what distribution centers to send them to based on how many people “Save” the film to their queue. So, you’ll of course be my best friend ever if you decide to buy a copy of the DVD when it comes out but if you’re more of a renter, you can also help us by heading to netflix and saving the film. And if you’ve seen the film and liked it, a 5 star rating probably wouldn’t hurt either.

Roommate from Hell! You know, the MC Lars song with mc chris? It’s now in my mp3/discography section! It’s a jungle remix that uses the devil’s tritone. All notes are 3 half-steps apart (or 1.5 steps) for an evil sound.

It also has me playing with my new studio toy, the Novation Nocturn. I assigned it to one of the effects that is chewing up the Amen break.

There are a few remixes of this song on MC Lars‘ website but none of that mashed up Amen breakbeat sound that mine does! Thanks to @redvoid for giving some constructive crits on the track.

Notes:

I bulldozed the original hook and intro. I pitched down the lars hook and made a ‘response’ from chris by taking what I really liked from the last part of mc chris’ outro thingy. I used Acid to arrange the track and chop up the Amens. When I was happy with the macro elements, I pulled them into ProTools. I consciously tried not to use Reason as an excuse to use PTLE8’s Vacuum for the bassline (Vacuum rocks!) and Xpand2 for the pad.

The song is really pretty simple: A pad, a bassline, vocals and beats but I like it. For bonus points, can you id the evil laugh sample in the breakdown before the chris verse?

Things on my to do list include using a discography plug in to tame the fearsome amount of music I have available here, adding more tracks, make a pop-out music player so you can jam to funky49 tunes while surfing the amazing amount of content here and some other stuff. Other things too. They’re cribbed on some piece of paper at home. Why not publish my to do list so people can chide me about not doing it? good idea.
