New Remix! Roommate from Hell!

October 5th, 2009 | By 49

download!

Roommate from Hell! You know, the MC Lars song with mc chris? It’s now in my mp3/discography section! It’s a jungle remix that uses the devil’s tritone. All notes are 3 half-steps apart (or 1.5 steps) for an evil sound.

It also has me playing with my new studio toy, the Novation Nocturn. I assigned it to one of the effects that is chewing up the Amen break.

There are a few remixes of this song on MC Lars‘ website but none of that mashed up Amen breakbeat sound that mine does! Thanks to @redvoid for giving some constructive crits on the track.

Please download, share and enjoy!

Notes:

I bulldozed the original hook and intro. I pitched down the lars hook and made a ‘response’ from chris by taking what I really liked from the last part of mc chris’ outro thingy. I used Acid to arrange the track and chop up the Amens. When I was happy with the macro elements, I pulled them into ProTools. I consciously tried not to use Reason as an excuse to use PTLE8′s Vacuum for the bassline (Vacuum rocks!) and Xpand2 for the pad.

The song is really pretty simple: A pad, a bassline, vocals and beats but I like it. For bonus points, can you id the evil laugh sample in the breakdown before the chris verse?

Nerdapalooza 2009!

July 13th, 2009 | By 49

Christy and I hit up Nerdapalooza 2009 in Orlando and it rocked… AGAIN! Somehow I am on the flyer for Nerdapalooza this year! Look mom! I’m center-left!

Redvoid and I tore up the pre-party at A Comic Shop where we opened for Schaffer the Darklord. This was the first time that redvoid got to douse the crowd as a dj as he aimed and fired with his Macbook Pro and Korg Zero-8 mixer. Of course he came from behind the laptop to knock people out with Samurai L Jackson.

All weekend I chilled with far too few cool people.  Sunday I rocked it with the Emergency Pizza Party after some laptop/projector drama. Lots of fun except for when the Orlando police shut down this road and it took a while to get dinner and we missed I Fight Dragons.  Summary: Nerdapalooza 2009 was awesome!

edit: He’s all fancy and neato and he inspired me to rework my blog. In my blog, can you find the recipe for jello shots? :)
